I awoke in the morning groggy from a very bad night’s sleep. My nightly ritual had been interrupted, and this, in turn, had me reacting to whatever got my attention. I usually check my phone whenever it beeps. I responded to my message while I was still waking up.
My Mistake Hurt Me
I learned I had made a mistake on some paperwork. I had not noticed that the autofill had put data in the wrong place on an important document. I had to redo the document and correct the incorrect information resulting from my mistake. I was not happy with myself. I allowed myself to be miserable and self-condemning. I hated dealing with the consequences of my actions.
Overcome By My Emotions
After a few hours of misery, I realized that I had skipped my morning prayer time and had gotten caught up in the drama of fixing my mistake. The thought that my whole day was ruined and that I would have to bear my misery alone all day seemed to be overpowering me. Then I realized that was not the truth. I could pray any time of the day I wanted to. I did not need to be miserable all day.
It’s Never too Late
I stopped what I was doing and asked Jesus to help me deal with my emotions and to give me the wisdom to learn from my mistake. Jesus reminded me that we all make mistakes and can learn from them. Mistakes can be used to make us better or bitter. The first step towards being better is to pray to the Lord as soon as possible. He will especially stay with us as we deal with the consequences of our mistakes.
Move Forward for Healing
In prayer, I was reminded to forgive myself, move forward, and not condemn my imperfections. I was reminded that humans are not perfect. I can learn from my mistakes and avoid repeating the same error. Jesus will help us when we seek Him. I was reminded of Romans 8:28 (KJV), “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Seeking Wisdom and Joy in The Lord
Lord God Almighty, please continue to sanctify me in You. I want to treat everyone with kindness and gentleness, just as you do, Jesus. I need to treat myself with kindness and gentleness, too. Jesus, please help me remember to double-check my work. Help me learn from my mistakes and remember that You can use everything for good and for Your purpose, even my mistakes. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ so that my joy will be full in the Lord as You answer this prayer. Amen.
