How do I seek more of God’s Love? Matthew 7:7 says we need to ask for what we need. What is God’s love? God’s love is not a thing or feeling to chase after. God’s love we seek is actually God Himself. Seeking more of God’s love is seeking to know Him better. I had to ask myself these questions: What do I know and believe about God? Who is God? Do I trust Him? Do I have faith and believe what the Bible says about Him?
1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
How Do I Learn About God?
I believe we learn about who God is through prayer and Scriptures. We need a personal relationship with the One God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Some things I believe because, I read it in the Bible and prayed about it. God is good all of the time and is Holy according to many Scriptures in the Bible. I know God loves me due to personal experience in prayer. God is faithful and patient with me. God uses all things, good or bad for His purpose. God hates sin and does not take pleasure in my pain or suffering. God allows some people to be tested and suffer like Job did in the Bible. Why? Testing causes us to grow in faith and know God better.
A place of Worship where Sermons are Scripture based and preached in context, truth and in the Spirit of God help to equip us. God uses fellowship with other believers to comfort us as He leads us according to His purpose and plan for our lives. A good place of worship will help us grow as Disciples of Christ. It will encourage us to seek a closer relationship with God.
Sometimes Christian Books Help
Evil is in the world. Bad things happen to good people. Why does God allow evil? God does not force His creation to love Him. It would be evil if He did force us. What is evil? Evil is the absence of God, just as darkness is the absence of light. All of God’s creatures have free will and are free to reject God. Geisler and Brooks, When Skeptics Ask, book answered many questions I struggled with about our God given free will and why God would not make us into cute little obedient puppets instead.
Love is About Giving Not Receiving
Acts 20:35 says it is more beneficial to give instead of receiving. Shouldn’t this be especially true of giving and receiving love? We show our love to God through faith and trust in Him. We start by asking for what we see we lack. I find it strangely ironic that I ask God for more faith to love and please Him better. While my goal is to acquire more of God’s Love. God answers my prayer to know, love and please Him better so I can reach my goal to get the love I am seeking. This reminds me of another book I read years ago. The book is by Max Lucado and its title is, It’s Not About Me. Funny title, but I began to understand it’s not about me and yet, in a way it is all about me due to God’s love for me.
Focus on God and Experience Him
Lord God Almighty, sanctify me in Your love and Holiness through Christ Jesus. I thought I was seeking more of Your love and now I realize how my heart hungers to know You better. Help me experience You in Truth and in Your Holy Spirit. Help me understand and know without any doubts that God is Love. Lead me to the Scriptures, You want me to learn and grow from. Lead me in paths of righteousness for Your Namesake and be glorified for how You answer this prayer in Christ Jesus. Amen.
