Children want to be loved. They want to belong and be heard. They love to listen to a good story, especially if it is true. We can witness to them as young children about how God has blessed us. Teach them how they can also share their feelings with God. They can belong to God and be heard. Teach them to focus on God before praying and to incorporate Scripture into their prayers. If you do this lovingly, they will receive it in love. If you do it as a burden or job, they will accept it as such. Children pick up on our unspoken attitudes. Ask the Lord to help you do all things in love as you teach and witness to your children. You will be blessed.
Talk About the Different Meanings of Words
Ask questions based on the context and meaning of a word when reading the Scriptures with your child. What does it mean to fear the LORD? Why do some Scriptures tell us not to be afraid? What is the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit? Talk to them about what you thought at their age and what you learned as you got older. Pray together about what you or your child does not know and ask the Lord to help you both discover the truth and understand it together. Be honest and let them know that even all adults are still learning. Share a funny story and enjoy a moment of laughter together. You will be blessed.
Pray and Discuss These Scriptures with Your Children
Psalm 34:11 (KJV)
Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
John 14:26-27 (KJV)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Matthew 7: 12 (KJV)
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Amen
Lord God Almighty, bless Your families with more of You. Bless their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Let Your joy and love take root within them as they learn and grow. Be glorified throughout the generations as families learn to follow Jesus, as the unique individuals they are, out of love and joyful obedience. Amen.
