One Small Word Can Make a Difference in Our Understanding

This morning during my Bible Study, I used my TLV version of the Bible to meditate on Matthew 14:22-36. In 2024 I started including this Messianic Jewish translation in my Scriptures studies. If you want to read the Tree of Life Version of the Holy Bible for free, go to www.biblegateway.com to read the entire passage Matthew 14:22-36 (TLV). You can also look for more information about this Messianic Jewish translation by visiting their website, Tree of Life Bible Society – Home of the TLV Bible.

The Tree of Life Bible Society

Their website states, “The Tree of Life Version (TLV) is a distinctive and authoritative Messianic Jewish translation of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation created by a team of Jewish believers in Jesus alongside Christian scholars. The TLV restores the Jewish context, culture, and linguistic richness of the Scriptures, offering readers a deeper and more authentic understanding of the Bible’s original message. “.

These Three Verses Touched Me Deeply

Matthew 14:34-36 (TLV) After they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Yeshua, they sent word into all the surrounding region. And they brought to Him all those who were in bad shape 36 and kept begging Him that they might just touch the tzitzit of His garment—and all who touched it were cured.

Comparing The Different Versions of The Scriptures

As I meditated on this Scripture the words, “all who touched it were cured” surprised me. I examined four other versions of this Scripture in my Study Bible. Three out of the four versions had translated it to say that “as many as” touched it were healed and one translation used the same words found in the TLV. The word “all” excited and surprised me. This word ALL, was a word that I had come to understand even as a small child.

Scripture Leads Us to Pray

I found myself praying that those of us who are believers with the indwelling Holy Spirit, would be like a Prayer Shawl (Tallit) worn by Jesus (Yeshua). I asked that our actions, work, and words would be like the tassels (tzitzit) that people reached out and touched in order to be made whole (healed) by Jesus.

My Prayer

Lord God Almighty, sanctify us in You. Holy Father, because You have blessed us with Your indwelling Holy Spirit, it is as if we have become the Prayer Garment of Christ Jesus. Lord Jesus, use our actions, work, and words to heal those in need. Lord, the small tassels on Your garment were used to heal all that reached out and touched it. Please use every small thing that comes through us to heal and bless all those reaching out for Your help. Jesus, glorify our Father and be glorified as You answer this prayer. Please heal Your people. We need more of You in our lives. Amen.
