Everyone has to wait for something they want. In the story told in Luke 2:41-52, Jesus, at the age of 12, had to wait to do something He wanted to do because His human family wanted Him to stay with them. In Luke 2:49-52, we see that Jesus was obedient to His human mother and stepfather, rather than doing what He wanted to do. Even now, Jesus is waiting to return to Earth. Jesus is waiting for Abba to tell Him to go and get His people. Matthew 24: 36-37 (KJV) “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
Luke 2:49-52 (KJV)
This is what Jesus said to His human parents, “And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Waiting on God
Jesus was especially obedient to His Holy Father, God. Jesus did not actively begin His Ministry until the age of 30, in keeping with the Mosaic Covenant. This standard is found in Numbers 4:3 (KJV) “From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.” Jesus was sent by His Father to be not only the Lamb of God, but to be our High Priest. Jesus was the only Priest without sin. He followed and fulfilled the Law perfectly out of love for God. Hebrews 4 tells us what kind of High Priest Jesus was.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV)
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Reconciled to God Through the Messiah
We are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, the Messiah of God. Only through the only perfect human, perfect Jew, was the Law, the Mosaic Covenant, fulfilled in the Messiah Jesus. Jesus did not abolish the Law but fulfilled it by following it perfectly without sin. Jesus started His ministry at 30 years old according to the Mosaic Covenant. At the age of 33, Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures through His atoning death and resurrection.
Jesus Can Help
Holy Father, thank You for continually sanctifying me and all of Your children in Christ Jesus as we learn to wait on Your perfect timing. Jesus, there are things I want for those I love and continually pray for. Please help me follow Your example and walk with You as I learn to wait on Father God. I trust You to help me to walk in obedience as I learn and grow spiritually each day. In Christ Jesus, I pray that our heavenly Father will be glorified through this prayer, and my joy will be complete in You! Amen.
