When I laugh I feel good. I feel better after laughing even if my circumstances don’t change. I believe we will laugh much more in heaven than we do here on earth. Just like all creatures in this world, our temporary, mortal bodies will die someday. However, Jesus the Messiah of God has come so that even death has been defeated and we have eternal life with God. Many Scriptures help me imagine that heaven is full of rejoicing and laughter.
Laughter After Deliverance
Scriptures like Psalm 2:4 and Psalm 59:8 lead me to think that God celebrates with us as we laugh and celebrate our deliverance from an enemy. Psalm 2:1-5 “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.” Psalm 59:8 “But thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.”
Laughter After Miracles
Sometimes God performs miracles and we humans can not stop ourselves from laughing and being in awe of what God has done. I only wish I could see the instant replay of the moment in Sarah and Abraham’s life as Isaac became a reality. In Scriptures it speaks of the laughter brought about due to God’s miracle. Gen 21:6-7 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
Laughter After Testing
Even after testing our faith, we can turn from our suffering and tears to rejoice in God and laugh again. Job 8:20-22 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: 21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. 22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
Created in His Image
God made us with a sense of humor. He must have one, we were created in His image.
I believe that God does enjoy our laughter. When He blesses us with joy and glad hearts we cannot help but to laugh as we rejoice in the blessings God has given us. If He enjoys our laughter, how much better would it be to share it with Him? I hope and pray we can come and rejoice with God and laugh. There is a time for laughter as we count our blessings. In Scripture we find this truth in Ecclesiastes3:4 “A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;” To have a balanced life, we must remember to rejoice and count our blessings, and not just the losses we mourn.
