A Sound That Calls Us to Know God and Remember Him

Steve, my online Prayer Group Leader taught us about Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets). Steve explained that the Jewish Holidays and Festivals are reminders for God’s people. Reminders to remember who God is and why He is worthy of our devotion and praise for Him. This lesson helped me understand that God uses the sound of the Shofar (trumpet) to help us remember who God is, what God has done and what God has said He will do. I am in awe that I was learning about a Holiday that Jesus celebrated.

The Shofar

I had only heard the sound of a Shofar (a rams horn) a few times in my life. It was very unique. In Leviticus 23:23-25, God had Moses introduce the Feast of Trumpets. There are several places the Trumpets are also mentioned in the last Book of the Bible, Revelations. I was surprised that trumpets were such an important instrument that God used them throughout Scripture. Until this lesson I ignored any references to trumpets. Now, I am beginning to see they are not insignificant. I have heard a picture is worth a thousand words. Now I wonder, what is a sound worth?

My Electronic Bible

I did a search for Trumpets in my Electronic Bible and there were over one hundred results to my search. It was interesting to learn just how many things the sound of a Shofar is connected to in the Scriptures. The sound of the Trumpet calls God’s people into repentance, praise, restoration with God and worship. They were also used as warnings, call to battle, important announcements, coronations and even wake up calls.

Revelations

In the Book of Revelation, the Trumpet calls the dead to rise from their slumber and it also announces the Return of Christ. I felt a wonderful warm peace as I considered that sound will announce the Return of Christ. What a glorious day that will be! Learning a little about the culture and Holidays of Christ Jesus has made me realize that what I thought was insignificant actually speaks volumes to my hungry soul. I just needed someone like Steve to explain how significant the sound of the Shofar was.

Called to Prayer

Lord God Almighty, sanctify me in Your holiness through Christ Jesus. Thank You for allowing me to learn about the culture and Holidays of the Nation Israel that You named and created for Your purpose. I am in awe that even a sound has meaning in Your Kingdom. Praise You God that the whole Earth is in Your hands and full of Your Glory. Open our eyes to see Your Glory. It is Your World to do with according to Your purpose and Your will. Please have mercy on us because, we have not taken care of the world as good as we could have done. We have not always loved our neighbors as ourselves. We forget sometimes to pray for them the way we would want to be prayed for. Please bless all of Your children and all of the Nations, that they will open their eyes to see things from Your perspective. Open their ears to hear and understand who You are and bless their hearts to adore You. Lord God Almighty nothing is impossible for You. I am asking You for a miracle. You are the God of Peace. Please bring peace to this world. We need a Revival of Your Love. God, You are love. We need more of You in the World. Christ Jesus be glorified as You move upon this prayer and all of our prayers. Amen.
