The Water’s Edge: The Second Commandment, Mark 12:31, is a story about Discipleship and being a good neighbor for Children through a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. It is designed to stimulate questions and conversations between young readers and the adults of faith in their lives. The story allows parents and caregivers to share their personal stories of Salvation, Scriptures, Bible Study, and following the commandment to love others as we love ourselves.

The Water’s Edge 2: The Second Commandment, Mark 12:31, is the second book in the series, The Water’s Edge by Rebecca J Samples. Bobby, the main character in the series, was saved at the beach in The Water’s Edge: The First Commandment, as he remembered the Bible verse Mark 12:30. Mark 12:30 is the First Commandment to love God with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Jesus was still teaching Bobby how to follow this First Commandment, and then added the Second Commandment when Bobby started praying for a neighborhood friend.
Jesus Teaches
Bobby prayed about getting new neighbors with children in this second book of The Water’s Edge Series. Jesus brought the Second Commandment, Mark 12:31, to Bobby’s mind just as new neighbors moved into Bobby’s Neighborhood. Bobby knew that Jesus was about to start teaching him something new about having friends.
Jesus Teaches Through the Scriptures
Bobby learned more about walking with Jesus as he learned more Bible Verses. The Scriptures teach him that God is love in 1 John 4:8, and God is God in Isaiah 55:8-9. Jesus primarily uses verses Mark 12:30-31 as He disciples Bobby and helps him grow in his relationship with Jesus and others. Bobby, like all Christian Disciples, must learn to walk with Jesus in love and not in selfishness. Bobby and his friends are learning that praying for others and being a good neighbor is a blessing from God.
